Choosing the Right Tree
One of the biggest factors in whether a newly planted tree thrives isn't the planting itself — it's whether it was the right tree for that spot in the first place. If you'd like help deciding, we can talk through what you're after (shade, privacy, a native, something that won't outgrow the space) against what your site can actually support — sun, wind, soil, and the room it'll need once it's mature. If you've already picked your tree, we're just as happy to work with that.

Site Considerations
A few things genuinely change how a tree settles in:
Soil
heavy clay, compacted ground, or poor drainage all affect how well roots establish.
Sun and wind exposure
particularly relevant on open or coastal sites, where wind tolerance matters as much as sunlight.
Space, now and later
a tree that fits today can be a problem in ten years if its mature size wasn't accounted for. This is one of the most common and most avoidable planting mistakes.
What's nearby
proximity to structures, boundaries, drains and underground services all matter before a hole goes in the ground.

Aftercare Matters
A lot of newly planted trees don't fail because of how they were planted — they fail afterward, usually from too little water in the first year or two while roots are still establishing. We'll leave you with clear watering guidance and aftercare advice, and we're happy to check in as the tree settles in. Establishment still depends on the tree getting consistent water in that first period, so it's worth taking that guidance seriously rather than assuming a new tree looks after itself.
